Colorado

Rock Home- That was an AWESOME idea! We wanted to watch it but the clouds hit just as it was getting good.

Oh, and we have started painting the new coop. Whatcha think? I am going to do blue celtic crosses across the nest box, multiple different colored flowers on the sides and back and I have this big red metal flower I am going to hang on the front. BTW, it's getting dark and I can still easily make out the coop. It almost glows.

Wow, Soo cool! Where in the springs do you live???

Hi All,
Just wanted to pop in and tell you that the Take A Peak Chicken Coop Tour was fantastic! I made it to 11 of the 19 coops on tour and had soo much fun talking to the owners. Each owner did things differently and it was fun to see the variety and creativeness that personified each coop.
I would definitely recommend it next year! :)

Opinions please!!!

We ordered a ready made coop from Maine and it arrived here in CS on Friday. Monday we will go pick it up.
Here's the dillema... we are still waiting to hear back from the HOA....
so should we put it in place or hide it in the garage until we officially hear back?

Do you have an HOA? just curious...

Thanks for the reply I was beginning to think no one had done any meat birds in CO. I was thinking about Freedom Rangers, Would you recommend Strombergs? How long did you grow them and what did they finish at. This will be my first time. I have been a hunter for a long time and always accepted that we had to buy store bought chicken then we got some layers and have been having a blast. I live in ColoSprgs and was thinking of growing some in the backyard in a hoop pen/tractor of some sort. Any knowlegde or tips you can pass to me before I get started? Thanks again!
Jim

I have done both Cornish and Freedom Rangers. Actually have Freedom Rangers coming the 1st of June this year. Freedom Rangers are better to raise than Cornish, but I still limit their feed. At my first attempt at Cornish, didn't limit the feed and over half died from overeating. They grow too fast and with the altitude here in Colorado, died of heart attacks. We raise our Freedom Rangers to between 8 and 10 weeks and monitor their weight. Butchering between 4 and 5 lbs.
