Yeah, but wasn't it a glorious rain aside from that.
Can't help ya with the DLM question either Mo. I dug 1 ft into the earth for my sub ground level floor, so I've got about 14" available for my DL. LOL, I don't think it will ever get that deep but ya never know. Don't know why the 4 X 4 would be an issue tho, depends probably on how many birds you have in it. My litter has been at about 3 inches since late February and is doing well, completely dry and odorless. But then I have dirt/sand under that, which might make a difference. I'm just kinda learning as I go with deep litter.
As to the jumping.........I have a roost in my run that's about 3 maybe 3 1/2 feet tall and all my chicks, including the youngest (8 weeks) all jump onto it. The other day my 11 Week old Welsummer tried to take off from it to the top of my 6' fence and was only shy by about 6 inches (and the roost is a good 6' away from the fence. I sure hope that bird netting holds up. I may have to start thinking about how to get something a little sturdier over my run. Was funny watching her do it tho. I could tell she was giving the fence top the old eagle eye, gauging her chances, then sure enough she gave it the old college try. Glad she didn't hurt herself on the way down. I'm hoping as she ages and puts on a little weight (the Wellies I have are very slender birds) it might be more difficult for her to gain the height she needs?????
