Colorado

i will ask him once he gets home.  He spilled water on his cell phone yesterday so i have no way of getting ahold of him till he replaces it.

Put his phone in a container of dry rice (take the battery and cover off) and make sure it's buried in the rice. Leave overnight and the phone should work the next day. This has worked with our cell phones twice now :)

he tried that for a little while yesterday but i can't get him to leave it there! lol. He's too impatient and ordered a new phone within 5 mins of getting home from fairplay on sun afternoon

Hey BYC Coloradoans. I've not read the whole thread but if any of you are suffering from the ever increasing fires I'll happily foster you're chickens until it's under control. Just thought I'd put that out there. Can foster other livestock as well as we've 40 fenced acres. Horrible thing happening down there!

That is very nice of you, I wish I had the land to offer as well....maybe one day.

Ask him if he thinks something like this woud work to keep them cool.since it is mainly for chickens I thought I woul just use screws and a couple corner supports. Not very high about for feet or so by about 6x6.. Thanks for the help. This heat is just sweltering, also thought of cutting down a baby pool.

he said that it would help, but that quite a bit of light still gets thru most styles and some point during the day.
He suggested putting shade cloth over your run for them. Its alot cheaper and less time consuming.

We have a mister clipped to the run and i turn that on over the hottest part of the day. The first 2 days it scared them but after that passed they seem so grateful to get it turned on and race towards it now. Thankfully their run and coop are almost always shaded.

I tried using a tarp but the wind ripped the gramuts out in no time. may I'll check army surplus there tarps should hold up better. I have been letting them free range the property when I am home but don't feel comfortable about that when I am not home. Thank your husband for the info on the perola , I didnt really want to do a construction project when it is so hot. Also will see about a shade cloth.

the shade cloth isn't solid like a tarp so maybe it will allow more of the wind thru it without tearing it up.

I've in Loveland and we don't get hit with the wind as hard in my backyard. I have a tarp over part of my run and i have the back just laying on the ground and the sides secure but loose enough for the winds to be able get around it without trying to tear it off.
