Well, I did it. I finished the coop and run. It isn't super pretty, but I'm satisfied with the end product. All that is left is hardware (latches, bolts, handles) I'll erap that up next pay check in two weeks... this is going to be an expensive first dozen ; )

I'll post a pic or two when my son gets off the computer.

That broke my heart. My girls have been getting really smelly lately so I diced to give them a quick bath. I think the water was too cold, my poor good Zoe fought like a cat in water and then when I put her in the towel in the sun she just laid there with her eyes closed. I thought she was dieing on me. I have them in the sun now and they seem to be better but I am not sure I was to try that again any time soon.

Kmatt- What research I have done is that they are very good layers of small tinted eggs. They are one of the smallest bantams and by all accounts can be feisty and friendly. The place I bought the eggs from said they are great for kids, so they can't be very flighty or aggressive.

Your coop looks great Mo!

Not to steal your thunder, but I FINALLY got my run done this morning! We worked on it all weekend, stayed up after dark working in the porch light, and I woke up early to get it totally finished before work. Tell you what, NOTHING is getting at my girls! :cd

Please excuse my mess - I had no time to clean up the yard before I had to get ready for work.

I got this cute little sign at an antique store. My hard-working man built me this door with the cross bracing.

The supports aren't attached - they were there just to keep it vertical.

The hardware cloth is buried underground, and cemented in with the posts. Nothing is digging into that!

They seem to like it so far.

From the top down. The 2x4 across the top was some sort of hard wood that the staples didn't want to go in very easily, so we zip tied the hardware cloth around it. It's secured on the ends and in the middle, so this is really just some extra precaution.

I'm pretty unhappy with how the staple gun worked. Some of the boards must have been softer wood so they were fine, but others just kicked the staples right back out. Half the time I had to go back and use a hammer to get the staple in. You can see it in the fourth picture with the post in concrete. Anyone have some better options? I read that you can use a screw and washer to batton it down, but that seems like a huge hardware expense. I think after we get back from vacation I'll redo some of the worst spots, but I'd rather use something that will stay permanently and not look so terrible.
