Colorado

Just an idea... I have a baby monitor web cam in my coop so I can check on my girls at night. It is infarred red so I can basically see in the dark. Worth the piece of mind, when I want to quickly check. My baby monitor has 4 channels, so my 2 boys are on it, and now my chicks!

Something set off the animals at 3:00 am this morning...the dog was barking and the ducks were quaking.

It had to be more than a sound...Normally the dog runs outside and barks a few times then comes right back inside...last night the dog would only run up and down the hall while she was barking, the last time that she did that it was when a person was attempting to get into my daughter's bedroom window.

The ducks never did settle down. I finally let them out into the yard at a quarter to 5:00am; that helped a bit. I've had a restless night to say the least.

Welcome to my world every night

Between noises setting the ducks and my gander off and the dogs hearing things along with needing to go out every 2 hours. There's not a whole lot of sleep going on.

Rock Isle did you get up to see if there was anything. Coyotes are a big noise causer around here. With their big green alien looking eyes looking back at me when I spotlight them. Jerks.

I quietly checked the house, window to window, then all the doors. Then I turned on the lights and went outside...Nothing.

Still....I have learned to trust the dog. She has proven very good at knowing when things are out and about in the yard.

That's why I asked. My dogs are good alarmists also. And I'm the one up checking for the culprits and DH doesn't get up unless I yell for him.

Well.................

Guess I'll go back into the 'They'll lay when they lay' mode. But it seems kind of cruel of them to tease me that way. I have to say I'm amazed by how uniform, neat and tidy that depression is. It's a perfect bowl, kinda figured they'd dig out a shaggy depression JUST BEFORE they layed. What's with a 2 day prep. Not like they have to move in furniture or anything.

Built the nest boxes today......
How do you alllike Beths sombrero?
Very nice!

Grandma R is going to take my roo next week. She can't this weekend. You guys don't know Grandma R but she's a dear, dear friend. She kept chickens as a young gal and now she's seasoned. She use to tell me about her chickens all the time so when I redid my chicken area, I set her up with 2 young hens and 3 young chicks. She thinks one of her chicks is a male so will eat him when the time comes and will gladly have dinner next weekend. She uses almost the whole chicken... the stuff that isnt so yummy, gets shredded, seasoned and put back into the neck for sausage. She does crack the feet to make broth, which is something I want to learn.

So, rooster situation taken care of. :) I came home today and found not 1 but 2 new marans eggs. They weren't exciting in size but they were very pretty. That means soon I should have green and blue eggs.

Now to get some more running around done before Fountain.

*edit: The marans egg turned out to be an olive egger instead. So now I'll have olive eggs to add to the mix. Yay!
