Well, chicken math got me, too. I planned to keep 4 of the chicks. Then figured I could squeeze 6 in, just barely! I had the other 5 on craigslist and had a guy call wanting to buy 2 of them and realized I just didn't want to. I'm keeping all 11! Now we need to increase the size of our coop. LOL At least here people understand my position! Hubby is a good sport about it and says he even expected it. Come Sept we hope we can build an actual big coop....if we have the money for it! Wood is amazingly expensive! My dream coop is 6' by 8'.

I've a 1.5 yr old BO that has gone broody. Does anyone want her? 

Also, I'm trying to give away my last 2 RIR hens (2.5 yrs old).  I'm thinking one of them is eating her own eggs.

If I'd didn't think DH would make me sleep in the coop after bringing home another new girl...

I'm up way too early, but not wondering why. I've got a very busy, full day. Going to the Renaissance festival, dropping my daughters off for a sleepover at their aunt's house, and have a game night at my house. There's a crap ton of cleaning to shove in there somewhere.

So, I've found some one in Falcon that's selling Cochins, but I have a question. My 5 girls had their Mereks shot at the hatchery, is it an issue if the new ones don't have it? The lady has day olds, 2 1/2 weeks and month olds. I'm very nervous about adding to my flock, but want a few more before the season ends, and figured a breeder would be a little better than rolling the dice with Big R. Any advice would be great.

I don't think that having a non vaccinated bird will affect your other hens. That bird will just be at more risk than them, and I woul defiantly go a full month quarantine.

Oh poo. That seems like a bit more work then I want. We've got one coop, and one big run. How far apart should they be for quarantine?
I do not want to build anymore. So, Big R might be the way to go.

I am wide awake this morning and I should still be out as late as I stayed up. I have a million things on my mind though so I guess my brain would rather be thinking about it all then dreaming about something else. I think my mind and I need to have a chat....

I went to the Renaissance Festival last weekend, just to look at the shops we were there all day. I got my husband in to a kilt.

I don't see any cleaning in that schedule, make sure you take it easy we all had a bit of sun sickness when we got home.
