You guys are great! thanks for all the support.

I realized this morning after 7 hours of sleep that at my age (only 50) 7 hours doesn't make up for 40+ hours between sleeping.

I've been at work for a couple of hours and will be back at the hospital very soon.
Beth is still in the Critical Care Unit at Penrose main. Hopefully we can get her out of there and into a regular room today. Chemo has been suspended until the other issues get sorted out, all of which are cancer related. Still waiting for some scan and test results, hopefully today as well.

again, thanks for all the support.

I heard some crowing this morning, so I know I still have chickens...... The kids have been taking care of them, which is good.
Per the MRI: NO BRAIN TUMORS!

this was a fear, but at least for now, it hasn't spread to her brain.........So why is she so weird.....Oh yeh, 27 years with me!

My mountain chickens must be weird because it is party city up here in the rain and fog. Even the 6 week old meaties are outside playing. On another note, my neighbor's pig scared the pants off of me yesterday. I am in the habit of scanning for big critters whenever I step out my door, but I missed the little pot-bellied pig until it squealed and spun around in the grass. Not what a girl expects to have happen in her day so I proceed to scold "Grunters" and then of course, I fed him some peas out of the garden cause he is soooo cute!
I was sitting here in the hospital thinking about this....

My hen house "pop" door is always open. The flock goes out as soon as it is light enough to see, and they graze around, then as soon as it even starts to get warm, they go back inside the hen house out of the sun. They also enjoy scratching around in the mud from the hose. So I wonder if they are inside, or if they are out in the rain?
Texting home to find out......

So I sent a text home.....

Yes, it is raining at my house.
Yes, the chickens are out in it. Crazy birds! I think my Dominiques are anti sunshine!

Well, I converted my 'double decker' nest boxes yesterday, and within an hour (about 3:30) found one of my Wellies in the repositioned box laying an egg. When I went out this morning (8:30) I found another speckled egg laying in the now favored outside laying area. I'm thinking this egg was laid late yesterday afternoon or evening. If so this means both my wellies are now laying. Which only leaves the 2 Doms and the 2 EE's as non layers.

Now how do I break the outside layer? Maybe this rain will discourage her. I'm sure not sitting outside today to figure out who it is.

I'm sure the rain will "dampen" their enthusiasm for laying outside....

You might try keeping the layers in the coop for a while longer with a couple golf balls or fake eggs in the nest box.
Well, I have golf balls, not in all the nests (double boxes and they pull all available golf balls into one nest), but all five other layers use the nest boxes, just seem to have one that won't. Wendell, how old are these doms? Guess I could go back into the posts to see when you got them. One of them (39) is getting really red and developing some nice wattles.
