Colored Chicks?

I saw thatIdeal is selling them too

I know a lot of people think highly of them, but when I saw that they selled dyed chicks, I just don't know if I would be able to give them my business. It just strikes me as really really irresponsible.

Ideal previously posted on the subject (use the search feature and you will find it) and stated that it is not illegal to dye chicks in Texas and is actually illegal in about 6 states, but many of those states have no laws against citizens purchasing them from Ideal and having them shipped in. Ideal includes an informative information sheet on how to properly care for you new chicks. If the new owners do not comply to these care suggestions then that is their problem and not Ideal Poultry's. That is like saying that you cannot breed any animal for resale because it may get mistreated. Do you think every puppy sold at Christmas or Valentines day has a great life with its new family, NO! This is the reason that many animals are in shelters and unfortunately it will always be this way. The majority of dyed chicks from Ideal are males that come from a leghorn hatchery that would have been killed as soon as they has hatched. At least this way they have a chance at a life!

A quote from Ideal Poultry:

"As far as the colored chicks being meat birds only about 3000 of the 90,000 colored chicks we sell are meat birds. The others are male chicks that would have not made it out of the hatchery. If they can provide even a little joy for children for a while then why not offer that. Who knows it might just be the next subscriber to your board.

If you have any other questions concerning the process involved in dying chicks please contact me at [email protected]"

I just get tired of these threads about how horrible dyed chicks are. If you are so appalled by this practice then instead of talking about it why don't you buy 25 and give them a great home with a wonderful life!

That seems more productive to me than ranting on some message board.

I have ordered many times from Ideal and have been very please with the chicks I have received and to all of the help their customer service department has given me. I feel that they are a responsible company dedicated to educating all who order from them on the joys poultry can bring to your family and how to properly care for them for many years to come.

Mods I am not trying to get this topic closed, just voicing MY opinion. I hope I have not offended anybody.

Hey herechickchick, how would you feel if we all came over and gave you a purple bath for Easter???

Why can't we just stick to colored Easter eggs?

We did that in high school - threw a colored crystal stuff into one seniors bath tub - I was in a hostel as the school was too far from home - so we lived there!

I agree! If there isn't a demand for them then they won't sell them. If someone really wants chicks they won't care if they have been colored. They are colored to make them more apealing to kids so they beg Mom and Dad for them and then when they get them and they grow a past the "cute" baby stage they don't want anything to do with them.
