Colored Ranger (Meat bird) Eggs *UPDATED PICS*

You are correct Mudderhen, they're hybrids and will not breed true. It's rather like breeding cornish x together, or any other broiler type poultry.

Okay.... Two questions
If you hatched eggs what would you get?
and....
How many eggs are you offering?

I got some of these off Ebay they were sold to me as a Sussex and when they hatched another breeder and I had the great time of figuring out what they were. He had bit on the Deal too. They were Huge and yes they looked just like this.I still have the hen,I got 11 roosters and one hen out of 2 dozen eggs. The roos had to be 10 to 12 lbs each.I did keep them confined to a tractor.

Yes you are correct they are mixed birds, however its not exactly the same as trying to breed two cornish cross. These are not as commercially manufactured. I dont know how the chicks will turn out as meat birds. However I feel like its worth a try with them, I doubt they will be much slower growing than my hatchery direct birds. However, as i said before, I don't really know. If I could I would hatch some myself, Im having to move in a couple months and don't want to be hatching a bunch of chicks and then having to sell them last minute.

I am offering eggs of one dozen then after that as many as I can get in a couple days. I only have 10 pullets and some are just starting to lay. To sell the dozen i sold this past week took me two and half days to get the dozen because I was trying to get the nicest sized eggs for the order.

So in a nut shell these probably won't breed true, as Cuban said. But i wouldn't pass them up as a very viable slower growing meat bird.

These brids are great! I have a huge flock of them myself. My hens weigh up to 11 pounds and I have a roo that is knock your socks off beautiful & huge! Whomever gets these eggs will be happy. My range hens are very frendly.

mudderhen , these are meat birds , y would you need them to breed true ? just a question ... i have a doz of these eggs in my incubator right now , the hens will lay and make some go eating birds as well

I was under the impression that they do breed true. Can someone pass along the link to info stating otherwise? I believe I read somewhere that the breed was imported and used as a common laying/meat in europe. Maybe I need to do more reading.

As I said before, I'm really not sure. They are a mixed breed, but I also *think* are more of a breed than the cornish cross which, as most of us know, are ALWAYS a product of two different chicken breed parents. I guess I'll have to see what happens with these to know more about it. Im excited that so many of you are interested

Because 'breeding true' is all about uniformity; not breeding true means that the beneficial characteristics might not be inherited, such as size, 'meatiness' or in other breeds frequent laying.
