Hi All!

So I've recently got this hen (it's a mixed breed landrace), but it's got really cool colouring and I was wondering if any other breed has similar colouring.

Rose comb
Multicoloured barred feathered?
Long legs

Are you sure that's a hen and not a cockerel? I wouldn't want to swear to it without seeing a clearer image but those look a lot like male saddle feathers, and the patchy colouring is often a male trait too...

I was decently sure it's a hen. She's 17 to 18 weeks old. She has a brother with a much bigger comb and wattles. Maybe it's a less dominate male with smaller comb but I doubt it.

I see what you're talking about with the saddle feathers though...

Reasons other than saddle feathers?

Well, male specific saddle feathers are a rather serious reason :p . I also see hackle feathers starting to show.
This guy also has male-specific red colour leakage in his wings and hackle feathers.

No LF pullet here would have that sort of redness in her comb and wattles before 5-6 months old (and yours is a month or so younger than that), and if so, would be much more filled out. I do not like to use this reason, as it’s quite often misleading, but his lanky look and disproportionate legs certainly seems to fit in well with the rest of the clues that point to this bird being a cockerel.

He’s gorgeous though. I’d call his colour/pattern red barred, but I’m terrible with colour names. Bielefelders have similar colours, and a multitude of other breeds and mixes, I’m sure.
Please update us on his progress, it’s very nice seeing how different landraces look and fill out with age; their colours are usually the prettiest as well!

Thank you so much.

Sadly I'm going to return him. If you want I can take a picture of the father and brother if I can find then.

These are the chickens I'm keeping:
