Columbian Rock?

Here in the West eggs don't go well at auctions either, 3 dozen ringneck pheasant eggs for .50 what a deal, the breeder must have been kicking himself... a friend of mine brought 5 embden eggs to auction last spring just to see what she would get for them, I think she got $2 for all 5.
Never bring hatching eggs to an auction, you get more if you sell them for eating.
Canadian hatcheries generally have all of their own stock, thats why you don't get more then the hybrid layers, meatbirds and maybe 2-3 heritage breeds at any one of them. One in AB tried to offer bantams and heritage breeds(they had 10 I think), but at $8.50 for an unsexed chick(nothin fancy either, EEs, Australorps and Opringtons) that plan went down the tubes within 2 yrs I think. Now they have 3 or 4 fancy breeds and only sell them in unsexed assortments(still like $9 a chick too). And the few heritage breeds where you can pick from yourself they only do 1 hatch a year(I have been trying to order black sexlinks and columbian rocks from them for the past 4 yrs and always either miss the hatchdate or they are overbooked for the breed).

Can't go to any other Canadian hatchery either cause the shipping charges are $100-$150 cause they have to go by air since if its not at its destination within 24 hrs by express mail it has to send via an airline.

I have switched to ordering my chicks from the US now for the most part. Although I am having a tough time finding hatcheries that offer Gamebirds such as dif colours of ringnecks and red leg partridge that are willing/able to export.

Anyhow, enough of my ranting. Gorgeous Plymouth rock hen you got there!!! I might just order myself some columbian rock pullets this year(if I can ever decide where to order from).

Anna, do you mean my avatar? That's one of my Barred Rock roosters, Zane, who is handicapped. He is my love, that boy. Been crippled since an injury when he was five months old (he's two yrs old now). I love Rocks! They are my favorite breed of all time. They are fabulous layers, great in heat or cold, and very friendly to boot. Here's my best BR hen, Amanda. Barry, you should get some Barred Rocks!

Sorry, I meant Barrys Columbian rock.

I love barred rocks, had them for years, only own 1 pullet right now though.... have so many projects on the go and didn't getr nowhere with the rocks and decided to get rid of them for now.

Would like to see a close up picture from the side view. The one with her on the roost is hard to discern, but even from the picture with them being outside, she looks more like a delaware than a rock.

about how many eggs do they lay a year?
That post was back in 2009. I have only one Delaware hen left who is 7 years old, lost my rooster at the end of 2015 at the age of 6 yrs 7 mos old, so no more Delawares. Georgie lays in spurts at her age. If I recall, back when I had them all, they were laying 6 eggs per week in their prime, with some skipping more days, some laying all 7 at times, so maybe averaged 280-300 per year. Mine would begin laying earlier than other breeds.

No problem. I don't have the CRs, but I think a lot of folks confuse the Delawares and the CRs because, for one, many just have no eye for detail (barred hackles and tail of the Delaware vs solid black hackles and tail of the CR), and secondly, because hatcheries, in trying to bring back the Delaware breed, combined the CR and the Delaware and did not cull properly, muddying the water between the two. So, I'm not sure what the discussion was way back in 2009 that precipitated my comment on the CR thread, but probably had something to do with all that. My friend Yard full 'o Rocks (Scott in NW Georgia) has some awesome CRs from a line in Canada.

I haven't spoken to Scott in quite some time. He travels a lot for business. Certainly, I would think it would be okay to PM him. Yard full 'o Rocks is his screen name. He's on the serious breeders thread, or was, but I haven't been on there much in the last year or two.
