Hi!
So this is Ingrid. I've had her for a few months. She used to have a bright red comb/wattle/area around her eyes, and her legs were very yellow when she was younger (we called her ducky). Now it's all looking much darker and blackened. I can't decide if this is disease-related, heat-related, or dirt because she has recently started going into the garden and compost, neither of which she did before. Here are some pics/more info:

Here she is on June 4th:

Here she is on june 11th after laying her first egg (comb and wattle were a deeper red in person):

Here she is on June 19th- looking back, i now notice some spots on her comb:

And then I was away and she was in the care of my mother. During this time, there was extreme heat and she stopped laying for a few days and apparently was pretty lethargic. It's cooler now and she seems all better. She had also started going into the garden, maybe 2 weeks prior to this pic, which is from July 14th:

And now today:

Here's a pic of her today after I very gently rubbed her face with a wet paper towel:

Some dirt definitely did come off, but a lot of black didn't. The garden does have areas where the soil will stain, but I don't know. Also, she's a solo chicken since around the beginning of June when a fox started in on the flock. Her bedding is wood shavings and she eats and drinks healthily, I think. She lays just about daily. She runs around in the mornings and evenings, and is pretty chill in the heat of the day, she hangs out in the garage during that time which is much cooler. Her poops seem good now, they were not good for about 2 days around the 14th and 15th when she got into a lottttt of watermelon (my bad). I don't really know her age but she laid her first egg on june 11th this year so I guess there's math there.

To summarize, my chicken had a red comb and now it is blackening and I can't tell if it's a disease issue, from the heat wave she experienced which did cause her to stop laying and be lethargic for a couple of days (now totally better), or from digging in the garden which she did not used to do and now does a lot. Any info or experience would be really helpful, thank you!

Looks like dirt.

What do you feed her?
For a Leghorn, I'd make sure she's getting a nutritionally balanced feed. An 18% layer feed or an 18-20% all flock feed.
Provide oyster shell and grit (crushed granite) free choice.
She's a high production bird.

Get a fecal float to see if you need to deworm her.

She has access to a layer feed (not sure what %), though she prefers a general mixed flock kind of feed. Depends on what we have. She also eats from the garden, kitchen scraps/leftovers, and lately she occasionally digs in the compost. From what I can tell, she eats plants in the evenings, bugs in the morning, and feed only when she's actually in the coop. Meat and worms are her favorite treats (she tries to get lizards but I've never seen her succeed). She's never shown interest in the oyster shell (which I do have available), she does eat rocks though so I guess that's grit! She's free to forage 13 hours a day, we have a very large garden, a couple of fields, some woods, so she's got options.
Does she seem like a Leghorn? She was not labeled as any specific breed (they never are here). She lays blue eggs.
