I have tried to google this but can't seem to find an answer.

My daughter picked up one of out black sex links and sat down with her. Stormy (the chicken) sat on her lap without trying to escape and was not restrained in any way. As we were looking at her, her wattles started turning almost white, losing color fast enough we could see it happening. Her comb also got paler, but not white, just a pale pink. I didn't have my phone with me to get pictures. I will take it out next time and see if it happens again.

Was she stressed? She could have jumped out of my daughter's lap as she wasn't holding her down. She didn't act stressed. I have never seen it change color so quickly before. She eventually sauntered off to eat grass and her comb and wattles changed back to red again, just as quickly.

Is there something else I should be worried about, health wise? She is almost 6 months old and hasn't shown any odd behaviors, doesn't have mites or lice, and is eating and drinking and laying eggs.

Comb and wattles pink with activity and do have some range changes.

Pale comb can be a sign of dehydration. It could be a sign of stress, but usually stressed birds flap a bit too. I guess if she were really scared she might have just hunkered down waiting for the "predator" to go away.

Continue to watch her over the next couple of days for any sign of huddling, fluffing, or unthriftiness in any way including being too quiet in a corner while the others are off doing chicken things.

Thanks! I will watch her tomorrow and see if there is any odd behaviors.

My hen Cleva Girl laid an egg this morning. Her comb and waddles were almost red before that. Afterwards they were a very soft pink. I would keep an eye on it and see if it continues. I imagine (do not know for sure) its a circulation thing similar to excitement in mammalian males. Of course we are dealing with poultry here so i cant be certain its just what ive observed. I hope you find something more consise!

I have noticed Stormy's comb and wattles are paler right after laying an egg as well, but they are more pink, not almost white.
