Comb and wattles -- signifies about to lay?

It could be due to temperature change and increased heart rate. I think I read somewhere they use the wattles and comb to regulate temperature...this could cause extra redness when hot as blood is running through it

the color can vary depending on mood ect. but as the birds age u will notice will get much larger in size and turn fire engine red.

is this the "squat"? I was pregnant with our first chickens so i couldnt mess with them much and im not sure if this is what im supposed to be looking for. This hen is 22 weeks old.

For em with my two Production Reds, I could never tell by the comb and wattles. It was not until she ran to me and squated that I knew it was close. What do you know? Six days later first egg! Her comb had gotten bigger, but was still bubble gum colored. Once that first egg came, bam! She mow looks like Foghorn Leghorn.

Yes! Im so excited she isnt even the onle i had pegged to lay first but he comb just these last few days has turned firey red compared to the others
