Is there a way to ensure bright red comb color on Black Sex link hens?

Do you mean as opposed to having some black? because they will naturally have a little black pigmentation in their faces.

We are raising chickens for a 4th grade 4-H project. We will be taking 6 of our girls for judging at the end of August. I of course would like for my daughter to have prize winning girls. I was told that bright red combs would be a plus when it comes to judging. I do have some that have black combs as well as black faces. Some have red combs and red faces, and some have a mix. I change the water at least once every day and sometimes twice a day. We are feeding them Co-Op 104 and 194 starter/grower feed. I also give them treats such as Watermelon. I just wondered if there was a diet or other thing we could do to ensure nice red combs. Thanks!

Hens combs usually will brighten up when they are ready to lay.
