Comb genetics?

Hi there.

Anyone have a link to a chicken comb calculator that actually works?
I Googled it and the one gave my computer a virus and the other one doesn't work and the third one I found wants me to enter in countless strange letters and numbers.

I want to breed my White Silkie roo with my black Pekin hen to start the process of making black Silkies but I want to know what combs the babies will have.

Google says that chickens get their combs from their mothers so does this mean that ALL the babies will have single combs? If so, can I breed that out eventually because I think Silkies look ugly with single combs.

I am sorry to ask annoying questions but I just cannot afford to buy a genetics book, they are priced higher than my salary, I could not believe it!

Thanks so much for your patients everyone and happy new year!

Not sure if this helps but i’m pretty sure Perkins and Cochins red pretty similar. I crossed my SilkiexCochin hen to a purebred bred Silkie rooster and ended up with a cockerel that has a rose comb. I’m horrible with genetics so I can’t tell you why this happened!

Walnut combs are dominate over Single combs, doesn't matter which parent has the walnut comb, or the single comb.
Rose combs can appear through this type of breeding to. I have a Porcelain X White Silkie cross who has a rose comb.
Comb Genetics:
r+/r+ p+/p+ >Single Comb

R/R p+/p+ > Rose Comb

Walnut has 4 possible Combinations: R/R P/P > R/R P/p+ > R/r+ P/p+ > R/r+ P/P

Pea Comb: r+/r+ P/P

Combless: B/d B/d

V-Shape Duplex comb: D^v/D^v

It's been my experience that the Walnut comb "fights" with the single comb, I'm getting a mix in different crosses and I just sort out the ones that have the comb type I'm after. I've also noticed that with using single comb birds, some of the boys born with the Walnut will get a rise to it later on. Some rose combs, some blended looking pea combs... hatch and sort, hatch and sort...
