I'm still fairly new to chickens and had a recently aggressive RIR roo that did this to one of my BR roo's. Was able to rehome RIR as he'd attacked me and my daughter and had enough after this. But I cleaned with normal saline and sprayed with blu-kote so half his comb looks discolored now, but mainly wondering if there is anything else I should do or be watching for? Have him cooped by himself for now as I'm afraid out other large BR roo would peck at it and he has picked on him some today. I also grabbed the large BR roo by his legs and had upside and carried him for a minute as I've read that could help with establishing dominance? Any advice is very very much appreciated. Thank you!!!! 20170820_005315.jpg 20170820_005329.jpg

Sorry to here about this. How many roosters to hens do you have?

You should have at least ten to twelve hens per rooster. If you have too many roosters per hens, fighting and overmating of the hens can occur.

Poor guy! How many hens do you have?
@RoostersAreAwesome can probably hell here, she deals with roosters a lot and can probably make some helpful suggestions!
At this point have 10 hens, 2 BR roo's, and 1 RIR roo, also have 4 young silkie's, about 7 weeks old, no clue on sex, and 6 isa Brown pullets about a week old, was going to try to keep the big BR roo for the 10 BR pullets, they're about 14 weeks old and maybe the RIR after 6 isa browns mature, I don't think anyone is mating yet, but know it's getting closer and have been free ranging them, gave 2 pullets and a roo to in laws and the boys went crazy, trying to kinda keep males away from each other at this time, but after I picked up the biggest boy and carried him around for a minute he seemed to chill, would really like to keep all 3, just not sure how to keep them all happy, will need more females but trying not to bring home more until new coop and DH may not notice them lol

The 2 BR roo's and 1 RIR roo will be 20 weeks on Tues, the 10 BR pullets will be 14 weeks on Tues, the 4 silkie's will be 8 weeks on Tues and the 6 isa Brown pullets are about 2 weeks old today

I understand, if your roos are young they are just randy and will settle down, however it may take quite a while. May want to look for some pullets and just "not know where they came from". Like "we didn't have that many already?"

Adding the new pullets will help, but you may want to consider renhoming one of your three Roos and any silkies that turn out to be males.

The aggressive RIR that originally caused the damage has been rehomed, the other RIR isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and mainly chases the hens while the big BR chases him and this BR has seemed to get along with everyone until this

I kinda did that with the isa browns, just went "to look" and tried sneaking them in a coop and my daughter ratted me out lol, but DH just shoke his head and mumbled something bout crazy chicken lady lol told him couldn't be too crazy since I choose him too
