My favorite hen disappeared the other evening. We searched all evening and the next day, but didn't find her. The next evening she showed up with her comb missing. I separated her when the others started pecking, and have been giving her extra treats with garlic for antibiotic and lots of greens for healing. It's scabbing over and looking better. Does anyone know it her comb will grow back?

Her comb will not go back, but she will be fine without one. You might want to put a topical antibiotic on it to prevent infection. Make sure you don't give too much garlic because in large quantities it can cause anemia. Good luck!

I have dealt with many chicken wounds. We have had no major comb injuries but I can say that chickens are amazing in their ability to heal their wounds. I was ready to cull one because she had no skin in an area that covered about 1/3 of her body. She is doing fine today. I wish I could answer your question but I thought I would encourage you in her ability to heal. I am so glad she came home. I know all to well how that feels.

How sad. But as said in the above post, they do have an amazing ability to heal. I have a hen that got into a fight with another hen and lost half of her wattle. It did not grow back, but it healed up nicely. One hen nearly ripped the first 1/2 inch of her toe off, split on the bottom. And today you can not even tell which toe it is.

Keep putting on topical antibiotics of some sort. You can add some vitimins to the water for an additional boost while she is healing. Don't let anybody pick on her healing area.

Thank you all so much for your advice and encouragement. Sunny is doing so much better. She just looks a little bald. It has completely healed over and she is running around with everyone else again. What a relief! Our little rooster is her special friend and after the first day of her separation he found a way to wiggle into her enclosure with her. He was protective and gentle with her so we let him stay and she was much happier.
