I have a few pix I'd like to share so that ya'll might be able to help figure out what's up with my chickens. I have a rooster who is several years old and has been in poor condition recently (mostly due to cold weather and external parasite problems). He is recovering nicely now but we have noticed this whitish "stuff" on his comb. If I attempt to scratch some off, it seems somewhat raw underneath. We recently treated the whole flock with ivermectin and followed up with a few days of Red Cell in their water because they looked anemic (pale combs all around). All are looking better, just worried about this guys comb and one hen. She is about 18 months old. Her comb tips almost look like frostbite but they don't have high humidity in the coop and they have heat at night. We didn't see much improvement in her comb after the Red Cell...

Any thoughts on these two is appreciated!

His looks like favus and hers looks like frostbite. Exactly what you thought. Sorry I couldn't be more help than that. Maybe hers is a case of favus just starting? But, honestly, it looks like a very mild case of frostbite to me.

Just out of curiosity- how old is that roo? He looks like a very old man indeed.

Good luck figuring out what's going on.

Looks more like a dry comb to me. Is it peeling?

This is favus on the side of this rooster's face. He was basically kept in a swamp, drinking filthy water and had favus and lice and was just overall filthy and malnourished.

I was wondering if that could be possible. We have put olive oil on it as well as Vet RX and a touch of vaseline a time or two. It is always super dry here in Colorado!

Edit: I do think his original home was pretty crappy. We basically rescued him. His was VERY hen pecked and was not growing back his feathers. We realized he was covered with lice (ICK) and got that all taken care of but he doesn't have any down and we had to keep him out of the super cold evenings. Now his feathers are already growing back and things are looking up! I bet it could be favus because of your description of the other bird's conditions...

I read that monistat could be a possible treatment?

You know, I just saw another post on BYC relating to favus and the red irritated bottom of her rooster and also loss of feather on a hen. The rooster does still have a lot of redness on his butt though all lice and buggies appear to be gone (he has been treated with ivermectin and Adams Flea and Tick spray). Would favus be playing a part in this? Also her are pix of another hen we got from the same place with bad conditions. She was missing some back feather when we got her and we gave her a cape: to protect her, but she doesn't show any signs of feather regrowth and it's been months.
