So a few of our pullets are starting to get a pink comb. I've noticed this over the last couple of days. Does this mean that they are maturing and nearing point of lay? They are right at 11 weeks, so I wouldn't expect it yet. Is that too early? We're talking about Barred Rocks and Buff Orps.

Nope, not close yet. 20-24 weeks is usually when they start laying. The comb will get really red when they get close.

If they already have a really red comb, then chances are they are roosters. Post pics and we can have a look.

i was hoping that they were a ways off, as 11 weeks seemed too young. and the two roosters are letting me know that they are indeed roosters about 5:45 every morning.
