One of my Black Australorps has purplish spots on her comb and even a bit on her wattles. She's about 20 weeks old and recently started laying. The other BA's that I have all look pretty normal, they've feathered out fully and have nice red combs.

I was just wondering if this is a sign that maybe my pullet is ill, or something else completely?

Thanks!

It could be, how long ago did you first notice it? could be picking by other birds happens mostly when your not looking. Is she in with an assortment? they might be picking at her. if not watch it carefuuly some people add antibiotics to water for what package recomends as precaution.
I went out the other day and found a few dark spots an one of my hen right in front of me rooster grabbed her by the top of her head , after a loud protest he let go but she had another spot, time to pen the rooster in his own pad.

This is such a great breed.but boys will be boys

hm. our roo is quite fond of nipping at the girls, i hadn't even considered that... so if it were this is it like chicken bruises? we're actually trying to rehome the rooster right now but it hasn't proven an easy task.

do you think it would be too overly cautious to add some antibiotics or electrolytes to their water/food for awhile to see if that clears up the issue? it just so happens this hen is my favorite australorp that we've got right now, she's definately the sweetest and i wouldn't want to lose her.
