It's a cockerel.Hi all! I have a five week old chick whose comb was bright red, but part of it is now faded to pink. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Are they let outside at all? I agree with oldhenlikesdogs that it can "flush" depending on what they are doing. But anemia is also a possibility, just means the blood is going someplace else. Maybe mites or ticks, other creepy crawlies. Give them a good once over and if their temperament isn't different they might just be using that blood to grow more feathers![]()
They do get redder when excited, but that chick is definitely a cockerel.
