And an assignment for my 3D Design class. We had to make a tower out of a single index card (no tape). To get a B it had to be at least 20 inches tall. And it had to stand up long enough to be measured. I had a stress headache once I was done.

It’s a challenging class but I’m excited for the next project. Being constrained to make the tower got me thinking of all the other things I wished I was working on instead (aka chickens ). I never would have thought of making a chicken from an index card.

An abstract drawing assignment that I managed to turn into a chicken:

My teachers and classmates kind of know that I just make my art chickens whenever I can.
Like all good art assignments, it made me want to do my own version, with more realism.

It’s charcoal, 18x24 in, and the eye is the size of a grapefruit. When I finished it I shut the drawing in a drawer so it wasn’t staring into my soul.

And another project for 3D design. Believe it or not this (hopefully) folds up into a bird. Here I was doing the math to scale it up onto a giant piece of cardboard:
