Not necessarily. They still look out for potential threats while cooling down. Multitask. My hens are also always on alert for danger.If they do not have a task, self preservation tells them to stay in the shade. But a male has to perform his duties. If they follow the same patterns as the hens, then do they neglect their duties?

Our two Easter Eggers are very large but have small pea combs, and have had zero issues with frostbite.
