Come in out of the rain

My girls seem to dumb to keep from getting wet. They can go in their coop, the green/house or under their coop....but...I have soaking wet pullets. Shiner looks particularly bad, sort of like an orange feather duster that someone stuck in the toilet. Why do they do this????

Will it hurt them to get that wet? It's still around seventy, in spite of the rain. I'm a little concerned that someone will bet sick from being so wet. Help, there is more rain in the forecast.

I dont think it will hurt them, if it is very hot where you are it might serve some releif actually.. but I am no expert, just going by what my RIR does.

it poured a couple weeks ago here and mine sayed out in it to!!

I did take my silkies in the house to dry! (I was afraid they would get a chill)

I don't think it would hurt them but, I do think they could get a chill! :|

Well, chickens should really stay out of the rain if possible. Seems like the younger ones need older ones to show them where to go to shelter. One should be concerned if a chicken is standing in the rain and getting wet, cause chickens need do stay dry to stay healthy.

Chickens (I dunno about Silkies, are they really chickens?) were built to live in the forest. That's where the game birds lived that domestic chickens came from. So they are, essentially, built for the weather, including rain. Often chickens go out in the rain, even a very cold rain, and find bugs that the rain has brought out without it making them sick. They don't get damp then catch cold like we do. Baby chicks, on the other hand, because of their down can get water logged or chilled and die. But it won't hurt adult chickens to get wet. I think the funniest sight I've seen yet is my silly Polish running around after a rain with their crests all scraggley.
