Ok...I'll start it off! Our cockapoo "Abby" is a TRUE "Backyard Chicken Farm Dog"...she's OBVIOUSLY a recent "farm dog" convert!!!

but she takes her job VERY seriously!!!

She insists on being outside for most of the day(even in this freezing weather! She would just sit out there dutifully and shivver(thus the pink coat!) She LOVES patrolling the side yard, keeping her "flock" safe and ridding it of those pesky squirrels!!! Oh and she deters the hawks too!

It's hard work being a farm dog fashionista!

No chicks yet so I don't know what kind of farm dog my poodle will be...but she'd be competing with Abby in the fashion department!

You gotta LOVE the poodle farm girls!!!

Last summer when we got our first day old babies Abby wasn't sure if she wanted to be their Mama to if she wanted to eat them! The whole thing made her nervous and eventually as they grew up she decided that she liked to see them all run and scatter when she would chase them ..she never wanted to hurt them she just liked the sport of it!...but WOW...things have changed lately and she is REALLY loving her flock and doesn't chase them anymore!

You MUST post pics of your girl once she becomes a "backyard farm dog"!!!

Here's mine. Keri suggested I post him. He's a bird dog, he will chase down the mourning doves that land to scratch and if he can catch them, he will eat them.

Which is why I was suprised to find him brooding. lol. He won't leave the brooder, if the chicks go outside for some fresh air, he scratches at the door to go out too. He growls at the other dog if he even LOOKS near the brooder. He sleeps next to it on his doggie bed and whines when they peep too loud. His name is Little Delicious (LD for short and so we don't get weird looks lol) and he's supposed to be a toy poodle but he has some defects. His legs are as long as a miniature's, and his tail isn't cropped, not to mention his jaw. But he's a sweet dog and we love him just the same.

We believe he is full poodle, since his first owner was gonna show him, but since he had defects they abandoned him. We adopted him. He was full of fleas and because he's so slight, the other dogs picked on him. He's very timid, except when it comes to birds. Even the huge warty ducks in the neighborhood. He will chase them, even when they turn and defend.

Jewels, my Retriever:
100_4384.jpg

She is not allowed IN the chicken run and the chickens know not to fly over the fence. She is a great defender of the farm. I haven't seen a 'coon, deer, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, etc. on the farm since she joined the family.

This is Darla. She is a 4 year old great pyrenees /golden retriever mix. She started out in an abusive home where she was kept chained up all day. From there she was passed from home to home due to hear extremely fearful nature. She would fall to the ground anytime a person approached. I took her when she was 2 and had her treated for heartworm. I couldn't ask for a better dog. She is extremely protective of the chickens. She is with them at all times. I have every kind of predator you can imagine, and have not lost a bird.

Oh my gosh, Darla is adorable! It breaks my heart the stuff people do to animals, which shouldn't considering what people do to other people, it just seems so much worse being done to dogs
