In my room, I have a large tank that I use as a brooder. It's one of those reptile tank things with doors that open in the front and a screen on top. When I'm brooding chicks, I typically keep the front doors open with a window screen across to keep them in but add more ventilation. My latest group of chicks were CX outcross babies. I swear, they got their size from their CX mothers but their brains from whoever dad was. I came home from a swap one day when they were about 4 weeks old...they had learned that they were hefty enough to jump against the window screen, knock it out, and escape. They were happily lounging on the sheepskin rug, for several hours by the looks of it. They just looked at me like "hi mom! Where've you been?"

I also have a sweet tom turkey that doesn't like to share with his fellow turkey mates. I'm not allowed to touch any of the other toms to give them any attention or he will attack....them. Romeo is sweet on me and will "tap dance" for me often. He even got upset the other day when 3 hens were snuggling up for some love and he wasn't in the huddle lol

One day, after coming home late from my daughter's dance class, I went out to the coop to gather food dishes. I'd had one IN the coop that day for some reason. It was dark and I couldn't see well but something was wierd when I picked up the upside down dish. Feeling around for a minute, I found that my fattest, most food obsessed hen, Maple, had managed to flip it over on herself. I have no clue how long she was under there but she just say there in shock when I got her out! She got to come inside for a few minutes to clean the extra FF off her and realize she was safe again...and get a snack of course!
