Kind of meh, but exited for Petra girlie. My dad must of heard me loosing my mind last night, this morning i woke up to coffee. I'm exausted, but the chicken coop NEEDS to be cleaned today. And I need to convince my dad to change the substrate in the run. No amount of turning it over is getting rid of that smell. Do you think mulch works good for a run ? I feel like it would be easier to turn and replace compared to the sand currently in there.

I used some pea gravel as well as sand in my run. That was 5 years ago. It has since been mixed into the earth, but I'm probably going to replace it this summer. It worked pretty well.
Just make sure you leave a spot for them to dust bathe.

They free range every day, and they have plenty of dirt holes. Their coop is too small for a sand bath.

Pine shavings work well for me.

I pretty much never clean the run, and usually when I clean the coop I only do under the perches.

Of course occasionally I need to do a full clean out of the coop, but usually only every few months. But this mainly because I have a very large coop and a very small amount of chickens.

My “coop” is just a pen with no bedding or whatever. I use the dirt on the ground and it lasts forever.
