Do they free range at day?
No. Heifers get moved to larger areas/pastures when they are older. We have hutches, pens in the barn, and a back pen, which is larger than the individual calf pens. Then we have a heifer yard/pasture (not really much of a pasture), and then we have a large heifer pasture for the older and bigger heifers. The milking cows have big pasture including woods during warmer months.
@Dottie the Chicken Those are cutie pies what are their purpose are they milk cows?
We have a small, family dairy farm. We milk mostly Jerseys and some Jersey/Aryshire mixes as well.

Got the blood all cleaned up. I think a rat got attacked by my neighbors dog (I saw the dog sniffing around the shed before I took it back to the neighbors yard.) and the blood looked fresh... and then I think the rat jumped into the feed bin and bloodied everything.

On a cuter note... look at eclipse with mash crusted all over her face!
