Does anyone remember that old "Lucy" episode when they were in Hollywood and she was dressed as one of the Marx bros.? She was passing by a doorway and a Marx bro. was at the same time, I think it was Harpo, but I'm not sure. Anyway, they mimicked each others movements perfectly as if they were in a mirror. Well, I just witnessed the chicken version of that episode. I have two roosters, each with their own small flock. One I call Gray and he is much larger although younger then the RIR. In one location they are separated by some wire fence. I was in the pen fixing a coop door and I watched them walk side by side, back and forth along this four foot section. Every now and then they would stop and face each other, raising and lowering their heads at the same time. Occasionally, in unison, they would step back and flap their wings, ruffle their feathers as if they were trying to intimidate each other. Then they would resume matching each others movements walking side by side, raising and lowering their heads all in perfect unison. It was pretty neat to watch but then they started taking turns, pecking at each others combs and I broke it up.
They were penned together until recently and the gray was always intimidated by the RIR. The gray was raised as a youngster and the RIR ruled the coop. Necessity demanded that I separate them but I like that the grey is now holding his own.
