Coming of age to lay

Ps
I have two hen boxes nailed to the wall way up high because I’m new and someone said the higher the better then someone seen my pics and said “why are those two boxes up so high ?” So is it good or bad?

The roosts need to be higher than the nests. Some people have nests on the coop floor. Some have them high enough that they do to need to bend over to get the eggs, say you have a bad back. Many are in between these extremes. The best height for nests is generally what is best for you.

There are some considerations. If you have Silkies, well Silkies can't fly. It's probably best for their nests to be pretty low and you may need ramps for them to get to the nests. You may need ramps for Silkies to get to the roosts also.

If you have the nests reasonably high practically any breed can jump or fly up there as long as your coop is big enough for them to spread their wings so they can fly. In a tight coop that may become an issue. Depending on how your nests are built, it may help to have a perch in front of them for chickens to land on when they fly up. Some people use ramps. Some people worry that because their chickens are so big they may hurt themselves jumping down.

There is no one way that is perfect for every one of us on this forum. What is best for you depends on your unique conditions.

Yes I think I need to do some revamping now that I’m learning so
Much I’d really like those two lower and my other ones higher

I have them high enough(18-24") to leave floor space open below.
Roosts about 36-40" are perfect for grabbing birds off roost at night for exams.
Both accommodate my bad back and legs. :D
