Hi, I'm coming out of the closet! I love my chickens and I'm not afraid to let everyone know it!!!!!!!!! I'm a cancer patient that needed something to make life fun again. Saw a sign on the side of the road selling Silkie chickens and stopped to see what they were and fell head over heals in love. Walked away with 8 chicks, my sweet peeps. My family laughs cause I spoil them rotten. Every morning I sit on a towel in their pen and read the Bible to them. They love Hebrews. I let them out when I clean my flower beds and they stay right with me. They know when the red cricket can comes out it's time to head back to the pen and trail behind. They sit all over me and seem to know just how I'm feeling. Someone please tell me I am not the only nut! Someone told me the roosters don't get along, that you have to keep them separate or God forbid get rid of all but one because they will constantly fight. Please tell me this is wrong. I love them all and only have room for one pen and think I have 8 roosters.

Welcome to BYC. Good luck with your eight roos. I too will have a flock of eight by next week. I'm hoping for hens but I'm sure a roo or two will creep in. It will be interesting that's all I can say.

Silkies are perfect for giving people joy. You gotta love those poofy heads and big brown eyes. And they love nothing more than a warm lap to sit in. And if you are not careful they'll lay an egg in your lap!

from New Mexico!

Chickens make wonderful pets and a huge distraction to life! And they can become such lap babies! Go for it!
