I'm originally from MA . We also started with 4 this spring. Definitely check out Black Australorps. They are super friendly (maybe too friendly sometimes), do great with a little help in both the heat and cold, and lay lots of eggs starting at about 6-7 months. Ours are a couple of clowns.
