This is going to be a Thanksgiving I won't forget for a long time to come. I've got a bad head cold today so grocery shopping and cooking is taking on a surreal dimension.
But it is what it is so I've already made and baked the Senator Russell sweet potatoes and corn casserole and have made two chocolate pies. I've got two pumpkin pies in the oven right now.
I'm trying to decide if I want to start a long brine with the turkey today so I can roast it tomorrow or just do a shorter one in the morning. There will only be seven of us sitting to dinner so I'm not really putting on the dog the way I would with a larger group.
One of the most annoying things is that I've got sixty birds of laying age out there, but it's November and many of them are molting. I've got kin folk who I really want to send at least a dozen eggs home with, my store account needs to be delivered this coming weekend, and I need eggs to cook with for tomorrow so I ended up BUYING eggs at the grocery this morning so I'll have enough for my store account and send some home with my mom and aunt. Sad, just sad. I read the riot act to the girls but they weren't impressed. Sigh...
