Communty nestig box vs individual

I've got a commercially produced coop with 2 sets of 4 individual nesting boxes. You can sort of see how they are below under the windows on the right.




The birds seem to use only one or two of those boxes. Seemingly, at one time.

Should I just figure out a way to cut out the dividers and have a double nesting box? After I caught them like this, I checked and there weren't any eggs, so they didn't actually lay. It's not cold enough form them to need to cuddle up that much.

This is normal behavior for a chicken. Chickens like to lay in tight spaces so I wouldn't recommend you cutting out the dividers, Also, hens tend to lay in the same place as others and where eggs are already layed. If you would like to attempt to change this, you can put golf 's balls and dummy eggs in the other nests to encourage them to lay there.
