Compacted crop. 7 days now :(

Chick crumbles as in her baby chick chicken feed. Baby meat as in pureed meat or jarred baby food. Now that she's had a full two doses of medication you can start introducing high protein foods like those @azygous mentioned. You just wanted to avoid heavy solid food initially to give her crop a chance to empty last night/early this morning.

So, current "good food" list:

Scrambled egg
Chick starter feed
Baby meat
Plain yogurt.

You want to avoid sugar like that found in human bread, fruits and veggies, corn or scratch treat, etc.
Thank u soo much ❤

Dumor poultry
Chick 20% starter/ grower.
Shes been eating food and yogurt. She swells up every time? Is this gonna be normal for a day or two? She won't eat the eggs.

It was a pretty severe case to begin with so it might take the full week of medication to get her crop normal again. I wouldn't worry yet!

It's fine if she doesn't want the egg! Chick starter/grower and yogurt is fine. Is she normally offered grit? Might be time to get some in her again to help pass her food through but I'll tag @azygous ! Also, it's normal for a crop to feel full after eating, it won't empty until nighttime when she sleeps. Obviously, swollen and head jerking isn't the same as full but don't worry if you feel food in there throughout the day.

@azygous , should baby start taking grit again now?

Ok I'll try not 2 worry. Yes she is normally offered grit. Do i need 2 still massage? Its full and visibly swollen. No head jerking. But Theres no way she ate tht much.

Yeah, if she's still visibly swollen go ahead and massage. The fact that she's not crop adjusting anymore is a good sign, though! Moving in the right direction! Hang in there, hun. You're doing an amazing thing for this little one! :hugs

Try not to be too concerned about the size of her crop during the day unless she starts indicating with her neck movements that it's becoming uncomfortable again.

Baby chicks' crops can appear grotesquely swollen because some are little pigs and really load them up. Continue to monitor each morning that Baby's crop has emptied over night. That's the main concern, not how full it appears after she eats.

Also, grit can't hurt, and I'm all for providing it to even the youngest of baby chicks as a mother hen would encourage it. My chicks get it from day one as sand is the bedding they are on.

Good morning we slept 8 hrs and her crop was squishy with little in it. I done the grit and got baby meats for her 2 try later 2day. Shes doin great ❤should i keep her in the house with me until we are finished with the med?
To be honest I'm not comfortable putting her bck out with the others yet.

I'm so glad you both got some rest! :yaHonestly, at this point go ahead and keep her with you until she's finished the med. Ideally she'd go back with her flockmates but you'll be a wreck worrying and checking her crop and unable to monitor how much she's eating, etc.

There's also the possibility that there will be some bullying when she returns so best not to throw her back until she's healthy; I'm not a fan of adding trouble to trouble.

This is probably wrong, I should probably tell you that she needs to be back with the flock ASAP but truthfully I'd do exactly what you are at this point.:hugs

Thank u :) also should i keep her off the grass? I would normally get her and 2 of her friends out about an hour every day and let them peck around. I brought one in with her yesterday 2 give her company and they both sit on me the whole time ❤ This little ones beak is growing like scissors so I'm thinking shes gonna require extra care.

No! I think some time spent foraging grass with her friends would be a good thing, especially if it was part of her normal routine before! It's a good step towards integrating her back with her flockmates, too!
