I am comparing my chick feed options from TSC, and I was wondering which y'all feed, and why. I am looking for a good feed for a mixed flock of Orpingtons.

IF I were going to buy feed at TSC, I would use Purina Start and Grow or Purina Flock Raiser.
Why. I'm not keen on Dumor which is TSC "brand". I've tried the feed and my birds didn't really like it.
Nutrena is o.k., but I'd aim for 20%protein if possible.

All this said! Go by Mill Date!! Whatever chick feed or all flock crumble is the freshest.

This is one (of a few) reasons I don't get feed at TSC very much. Mill dates were old (months!), I've found clumpy stuff in feed (from being wet/moldy), price.

While TSC is somewhat a "big box" type of store, you may actually find that your local Mom/Pop feed store or mill has competitive pricing, better/different or comparable feeds/offerings and that personal touch of customer service that has been lost somewhere along the way...

Needless to say, I found a small locally owned store to get my feed. I had chickens for a few years before I discovered them. I **thought** they only carried specialty feed for horses and goats but boy was I in for a pleasant surprise.
If you have some locally owned places - make some phone calls and ask questions, it never hurts to see what other options you may have in your area.

I used to buy my feed at Tractor Supply until I discovered that my local True Value has much better prices on chicken feed and is under 5 minutes away while Tractor Supply is 50 minutes.
Their 10lbs bag of Chicken Starter/Grower is cheaper than my local store. $8.99 vs $9.99.

From what I read Purina is who actually makes the feed for Dumor.
Personally, I would rather not buy Purina. I would never feed their stuff to my cats or dogs so why give it to my chickens.
