I want to add to my flock of 5 red stars, looking for a more colorful egg basket. Our girls are quite docile but I wondered if there were compatibility issues. Ameracauna or EE? These are pets and should be able to be handled, low maintenance and get along well with our current birds. Should I buy pullets, laying hens, or wait until spring for chicks?
Any advice, tips, and suggestions would be much appreciated! :)

I had RSL hens and after a year I got 6 EE chicks that the kids school hatched.I put the EE's with the RSL at about 16 weeks. The RSL were the bosses and DID peck the EEs,but overall they did OK together. We got blue and brown eggs.
