Competition Dogs Thread

Is that a real duck? (sorry for the stupid question.lol)
Yes, it is! I love that dog, I really want a puppy from him. His lines are wonderfully versatile, and I think that it's important to keep golden retrievers versatile and not just turn them into a froofy show breed.

@sourland you run beagles in field trials, right?

I also seem to recall that @Overo Mare was involved in dogs?
Somehow I missed this tag - I apologize.

Yes I compete at field trials with my beagles. This past season two of my dogs achieved Fd Ch status - Fd Ch Sourland Mt War of Will and Fd Ch Sourland Mt War Cry. Both are sired by a male of mine - Fd Ch Sourland Mt War Eagle. Sadly 'Dale' was euthanized 5 days ago with metastasized prostate cancer. Right now I have two young dogs - War Tag and War Lord - that are showing potential. The dogs are the longest ongoing activity in my life. I started field trialing in 1958 and have finished nearly 50 dogs.

We have always obedience trained our house dogs. One golden retriever in particular was a natural and she achieved her CDX title in both AKC and UKC. She was utility trained and started showing anxiety over articles. When it stopped being fun for her we stopped competing. We found the obedience trialers to be very competitive yet supportive of newcomers. On the day that Livvie achieved her AKC CD title everyone applauded her performance. Much of the work with her was done by the Princess. I only competed if/when the Princess had other obligations.

Our present house dog is Miss Maggie Mae a mutt - yeah they call them Golden Doodles, but they are mutts. At 15 months she is very willful and smart . With an extremely high energy level. Not certain whether or not we will consider training her for competition.

Where we live and everything I do has been structured first around family and then around my dogs - my second family.

He is so beautiful! Are those all from field trials?
He was one of a few who competed and won in all three of the major registry's, AKC, UKC, and ARHA. I hunted and trialed him in eight different states. I have a young male out of him who has placed in all six trials I have taken him to, hopefully this next spring you can break through and get in the win column now that he is getting a little older and mature. The only time I've ever dealt with parvovirus was with his last litter and only one survived but she is beginning to turn into the most complete dog I've had since him. Just have to give her a little bit more time, big shoes to fill
