Competive Runners?

I used to run competitively in high school 12 years ago. I went to states 2 years in a row, and placed 10th one year. Now though I don't have enough time between work and chicken/garden activities to run. I do think I'm still in shape in a different way now.

My fastest ever mile was 5:59. Now I could *maybe* crank out an 8 if I didn't want to walk the next day!

Thanks!

Getting older and family history of arthritis.
Ronott, I don't know a whole lot about arthritis, but I had recently read some types of arthritis actually benefit from brisk walking and exercise, even though you may feel more pain initially, reportedly long term affects are very positive! Maybe do a little research on that? Running on asphalt and pavement though are terrible on the knees, so is heal striking. A flat bottom shoe allows you to run more on the balls of your feet. Landing on the balls of your feet is your body's natural suspension system!

Cool! Our high school boys team was expected to win. But since they moved volleyball to the fall, its been harder to get good girls on out team, last year the Jr. High team had 24 boys, and 6 girls! But I'm running pretty fast, so hopefully the girls team can start placing again!

Thank you!

I do walk some but am waiting to hear from the Dr. before doing more. Ice and naproxin help a lot when I over do it
