Here is my almost completed coop.
I have been lurking on BYC for about 2 years now. When we bought our new house we needed to build a new coop, and this place was an amazing reference. We found 3 coops we liked, 2 of them based on the "wichata" coop.
We have 6 hens that will live in this coop (with a large run that isn't pictured yet)
It is completely based off of the "Taj Mahal / Wichata knockoff" coop, but a smaller scale.
We live on 1/4 acre and only have 6 hens. So we didn't need a huge coop. I was concerned with this design feeling too "cramped" being this small, but I think it turned out great.
Our coop is just over 8x4 feet. With a 3x4 enclosure.
Next steps are to build their run. I will fence off part of our backyard for their run. The end of the fence will be right next to the coop center door. I have it designed so when I open the center door, it will latch to the fence post creating a closed in run about 20ft by 20ft.
I am really happy with the way the coop came out, thanks again to so many of you that posted such amazing pictures of the design and progress of your coops. It was a huge help in getting this one completed.
