Completely free ranging ducks?

Three nights ago something disturbed them enough for them to make enough noise to wake me but not as loud as I know they can get. Shined a spotlight over there and that was it. Nothing bothering them before or since. (Knock wood.) Might be that there is plenty of other wild critters (baby bunnies etc) that are easier to get at.
