So I decided to do the salt test on my hygrometer that is attached to my thermometer before we go into lockdown. I have not had any issues with it but I thought I might as well know for sure what it is doing. I put the salt in with the water and sealed the hygrometer and the salt in a ziploc bag. Within 5 mins, the hygrometer was reading 74% but I read that I should leave this in for 6 hours or more. Is the waiting necessary or can I assume that my instrument is pretty accurate? If you want a completely foolproof, 100% accurate meter to measure against for calibration just buy a Bacharach sling psychrometer. They are about $80. They set the industry standard for moisture and temp measurement.

However, I'd give it at least a couple hours to make sure it's not going to continue to increase. So I decided to do the salt test on my hygrometer that is attached to my thermometer before we go into lockdown.
