We have 9 mature hens - 2 Barred Rock and 7 Maran. They are laying well.
We have 10 BR pullets and 27 straight run Buff Orphington.
....And one quite old Columbian Wyandotte Rooster.
The rooster adores the younger chickens and protects them. The problem is, he sees the adult hens as a threat and drives them away from food.
We got him last week - he wandered over from across the street. He had been the only chicken being kept with geese. The farmer said he fought the other rooster and he separated them.
He is not seriously damaging the hens but i worry about them not getting enough to eat.
Any advice ? Recipies ?
