Two cities around me let you get all the mulch you want. Right now we have a pile just in the yard composting ( we do put our grass and veggie scraps in it too).

After reading things on this sight about letting your chickens help with the composting, I was wondering if it needs to be soft stuff like hay, grass, and leaves or do you think the mulch will be ok too? We have tons of worms and other bugs in it now and the wild birds LOVE it, but of course don't help turn it.

Anybody have knowledge or experience with using mulch with chickens? Thanks for your help and info.

I pour the mulch out in piles in the beds where it goes. The chickens spread and turn it for me.

My chickens love going through the mulch piles around the yard. They help me spread the mulch. I also have a huge compost pile in their run. They dig around it every morning before I let them out to free range. No flies in the compost pile and they help with the composting a lot.
