Composting Chicken Poop.........

Quote:
Oh my, don't toss it out!

Find a nice corner and pile it up, it will break down. You will need to turn it occasionally and keep it damp if you want it to break down faster. Also, the more poo to straw there is, the faster it will break down.

Remember. . . "compost happens!" How fast it happens depends on how deep it is piled, if it stays moist, and if it gets turned.

* hey, milton. I'm in FL too. I kinda shortcut the composting by making clipping & ckn poo 'tea'. Keep stuffing my dry clips in a black bin, add poo & water & whatever else. I drink ALOT of tea-- so, tea leaves are a major, coffee grounds, some paper, etc. Topped off with rain water or 'grey' water. And-- let it cook. Stir when you add to it. (i use a garden hoe to mix) *To use*: GENTLY push down the muck, skim off some liquid & filter it (I use a piece of window screen) put in a hose -end sprayer w/ a cup of soap & spray away!!! I use this mainly on the grass-- but I'll hit the flowers once or trice a yr. when they're NOT in bloom. One bin of this stuff would probably cover the whole neighborhood. I've been working off the same one for maybe 5 years?? I HAVE lowered the pH with amentments, too-- peat, topsoil & some compost-- but this is the stuff I use regularly. My yard is FAR from perfect, but WAY better than the plain sand I started with.

I like the poo tea idea. BUT, doesn't it smell like an outhouse on a hot August afternoon??
