I toss the meat bones to the chickens in their pen. THe problem critters are kept out by at least two fence lines, and the chickens don't leave anything -- picked clean!!
Mumsy-- I like the compost system that you are utilizing. Makes complete sense as enough air needs to get to everything to complete the composting process. We dump everything on the top of a very large manure pile and it decomposes VERY fast. THe layer is realatively thin and the chicken dig big holes every where. THey turn it over for me. In the winter I throw on oat seed to encourage thier activity as the usual yummies have gone to ground. I did bag up some fall leaves and leave the bags piled up on the compost pile. THe ground underneath is not frozen and the earth worms are at the top available for a snack.
