I posted this in egg laying section and was told I might get more opinions in this thread.

I just purchased a beautiful young Rhodie who was hatched in March. I have had her for almost 3 weeks now. She has been producing little eggs without shells for the whole of her quarantine period, except for one really huge double yoked egg about a week and a half ago. She is on layer pellets and I've seen her eating the calcium supplement as well. I've not known a pullet to do this for so long...have you?

Should I be concerned at this point and is there anything else I can be doing for her. I didn't mention it earlier, but, I have been giving fresh broccoli and some grass clippings every day as well.

You might look at this link. It does seem like a very long time. I'd seriously consider it might be a disease or genetic at this point and not add her to the flock. The quarantine may have saved you some problems. If you hatch your own replacements, you would not want this trait in your flock anyway. The soft eggs are not only a nuisance, they can initiate egg eating. Better safe than sorry.

I am concerned about egg eating. The other 2 pullets I got with her race for these eggs when they see her lay. I can't always stop them.

I don't see anything on that list that seems to apply - except perhaps the pen she is in is too close to the road and truck noises have her on edge?? It isn't bothering the other 2 - they lay nearly every day.

maybe she has some problems absorbing the calcium properly. Hopefully Threehorses will post for you. If not I know she has a recipe of sorts to add more calcium to their diets, go to her page and check her posts she gives very specific directions and is very knowlegable.

I agree if it cant be fixed that culling, or keeping as a pet only is probably best.
