Concerned New Chick Owner

Hey there! So I recently got three chicks, they’re about 4-6 days old and the seller recommended some mealworms/waxworks for them to keep them entertained and make sure they’re active. So I fed them a few, 1-2 each. Now I find out that you shouldn’t feed ur chicks anything other than crumbles without grit. So I got the grit I had and realized it was for 2 week old chicks. I then grinder it into a much smaller form and spread some out for them along with their normal food.
Is this ok? I’m pretty attached at this point and would be destroyed if I hurt them.

Hey! I have ducklings, and they are similar in raising. I feed my ducklings unmedicated chick starter and i give them mealworms almost daily. mine are only a week old and I heard it’s good for them to look around for treats. I’m not sure if this applies to chicks, but my ducks are happy.

I don't know where this "grit is for 2 week olds" came from, but I supply grit right at the start, just as a mama hen scratching around would. No need to grind it down, it's super tiny already.

My bad I didn’t mean to imply all grit is for 2 week olds but the one I got says to start at two weeks. But thanks for the response!

In most cases I agree reading the package directions is a good idea, but yes grit is safe from the start. The only danger off the top of my head is if the chicks were to gorge themselves on it so that's something I'd keep an eye on.

I just put a small sprinkling directly on their food once every few days, so they can't overeat it.
