I got home from college this afternoon and saw one of my EE hens had some clogged down and white paste around her cloaca. Her cloaca was also red and looked agitated. We found a broken, thin-shelled egg in the nesting box as well. She’s acting normal with a healthy appetite. Just want to make sure this isn’t life threatening.

Looks like vent gleet, which could be caused by a large number of issue but ultimately comes down to being a yeast infection. When my hens have had a mild case in the past, a bit of nystatin for a few days (applied topically) and a bit of yogurt each day mixed with feed and a bit of wheat germ helped clear it up.

Messy bottoms can be common if they have a lot of fluff and suffer diarrhea. Red skin can be from chronic irritation from droppings, but occasionally a fungal infection (vent gleet) could be possible. A vent prolapse would be an emergency since internal tissue can be exposed to air and dry out. Did you get her cleaned up to see her vent in pictures?
